I have just got back from a couple of weeks in the Alps, primarily for our family holiday but also getting some great mountain biking in. We had a week in Chamonix where I managed to ride every day, with highlights being the lift accessed downhill at Le Tour and a daily evening ride from Argentiere on the Balcon Sud.

For the second week we headed to Solden in Austria which markets itself as The Bike Republic. I was blown away by how well it was setup for riding. The whole ski area transforms into a downhill paradise for mountain bikers in the summer with lift accessed rides of all grades and lengths across the mountain. The buses in town are free and all kitted out for bikes, all of the trails in the area are signposted and maps and info books freely available – in short it is fantastic! I will be back!
