"I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for last week – it was awesome and just what I needed. Being able to be taught the essential building blocks and develop from there through the week is important because of the confidence it gives you to go off on your own steam. Best regards Mike" 5 day navigation and scrambling course June 09"Just wanted to drop you a line to say thanks for the training on navigation and scrambling. You have given me confidence that I have the skills to navigate in the hills and I must keep practising it to be confident in poor visibility. Scrambling adds another dimension. I walked up Tryfan again last Saturday had a great view of a ring ouzel, photo enclosed. It is - honest. Thanks again Rob and hope all goes well for the birth of the 4th addition to your family. Kind regards Lynda" 5 day navigation and scrambling course June 09

Hi Rob,Thank you for a great week - fantastic guiding and a really interesting course. I can't wait to get back out to the hills - in fact I've just booked onto your winter skills course in Scotland! And I'm now off for a run to start getting fit for it.Thanks again and see you in Scotland! Best wishes, Rosie 5 day navigation and scrambling Oct 09

"Hi Rob - Just wanted to let you know that we are not in fact still wandering around, scratching our heads, in Snowdonia so you must have done a good job. We had a lovely day and almost didn't get wet. The ascent was interesting to navigate and beautiful, we'll do something more difficult next time. Thanks for a fun and very useful weekend. Regards, Joanna - Hill Skills July 2007

"Just a quick note to than you for your time and expertise in teaching me this weekend, I feel that I have gained a lot of valuable skills that I shall be reflecting upon in time to come...I look forward to booking futures courses with you." Tony - Oct 04

"Just a quick mail to say thanks for the ace time I had on the Hill Skills course back in October. A long time to get a response I know, but I have only just dryed out!
Since then I have had fun getting my family lost, and boring everyone at work with my contouring technique around the desktops! It has inspired me to get out on the hills a lot more, in fact I'll be back in Snowdonia this coming weekend trying out the Glyders! Who knows, this year maybe a scrambling course? Hope the business is thriving - onwards and upwards!"

Summer Skills 5 day Course
Mountain Navigation & Scrambling in Snowdonia (Silver NNAS)

Location: Snowdonia
Price: £295 per person
Ratio: 1:6 dropping to 1:4 for the scrambling
Length: 5 days

Who is the course suitable for?
If you have an interest in hillwalking in the mountains in summer conditions and would like to be a confident and self sufficient navigator and able to look after yourself in summer conditions then this is the course for you.

Over the 5 days we will spend 3 days focusing on mountain navigation, taking in some of Snowdonias finest summits along the way. We will then devote 2 days to heading onto steeper ground and looking at the skills involved in enjoying grade 1 scrambles. These latter two days will be tailored to suit the groups skills and aspirations.

This course is ideal for complete beginners. It is also a good grounding for anyone looking to gain pre-requiste experience before attending a Mountain Leader training course. The course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18, there is no maximum age and we regularly get a mixture of ages and experience and are used to tailoring the course to meet the needs of a varied group of people.

What does the course cover?
- Five full days of practical navigation and scrambling in the mountains of Snowdonia
- Introduction to different map scales
- How to set the map

- Movement over steep gound (this is not a scrambling course but will give a gentle introduction)

What is the NNAS?
The National Navigation Award Scheme is a nationally recognised structure for the provision of navigation training courses. It is arranged into 3 levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold. This course covers the Silver award which covers more open country techniques such as contour interpretation, distance judgement and good compass use. The awards are becoming more widely recognised by schools and youth groups.

Where is the course held?
We run the course in Snowdonia and try to ensure that all of the learning takes place as part of a mountain journey. We have the right to roam in Snowdonia and so are not restricted to staying on footpaths and this helps develop our map to ground reading skills.

Whats included?
The course fee includes instruction and the use of any specialist equipment. You can read our "whats included" and kit list page here.

What about accommodation?
We do not include accommodation with this course. For a variety of different accommodation options in Snowdonia, from camping to nice hotels, visit this link.
