As a summer hillwalker you enjoy the mountain environment and now want to begin to tackle some of the fine ridges and gullies that they have to offer. To gain the confidence to stroll along airy ridges with stunning views dropping away on either side is to open up a whole new playground!

The beautiful English Lake District offers a wealth of fine scrambles of all grades in beautiful scenery. It is also very accessible from across the UK with quick roads in from the M6.

This 5 day course starts you off on grade 1 scrambles with classics including Sharp Edge on Blencathra. We will look at movement skills, route selection and how to assess and manage risk to stay safe in a steep mountain environment.

As the course progresses we will move onto grade 2 and 3 scrambles. Initially these will be a guided journey with me on the sharp end of the rope so that I can teach you the skills that are used to manage this type of ground using the rope and some basic rock climbing equipment. As the course progresses the aim is to get you leading the rope. I run the course at a 1:2 ratio to ensure that you get the highest level of care and instruction.

The course focuses on teaching you how to protect you and your partner on steep ground using the rope and the content includes running belays, moving together, direct belay techniques, abseiling & short roping. We can also look at the ropework involved in protecting nervous partners on easier ground.

At the end of the course you should be aware of the skills that you require to tackle your own objectives under your own steam. Rob will provide advice on how to progress those skills.  The course is great preparation if you are planning your first trip to Skye or your first summer Alpine trip.

What have previous clients said?

Just writing to say thanks for a couple of amazing days in the mountains, the course far exceeded my expectations and took me way out of my normal comfort zone and what I though I was capable of. I enjoyed your instruction and interesting facts about the mountains and despite a couple "wobbly" moments always felt I was in safe hands.Traversing onto and then climbing up the face of the Dolmen buttress are moments that will stay with me for a quite a while ! brilliant ! How my legs kept going on Friday I'm not sure, will power and adrenaline I think, I'm VERY sore today and wishing I lived in a bungalow !

"Just a note to say thanks a lot again for a cracking week of scrambling on Skye. Glad to have done the course and
learnt so many new skills.  Looking forward to going back to climbing wall tonight (now that the bruises are
subsiding!). All the best, Gaby" Skye Scrambling 2007

"Thanks again for a great week. With your tuition I do now feel empowered to be able to undertake pretty much any
scramble the UK can throw at me!" Alan Skye Scrambling 2007

"Thanks (again) for a really great trip. I had an excellent time throughout &
our day scrambling the Dubh slabs was a very special one for me. I also
enjoyed the TD gap although next time I will know what to expect & hopefully
cope with it more smoothly. Cheers and all the best. Mike" Skye Scrambling 2006

"Just a quick note to say many thanks for a great week. It was tremendous to gain the benefit of some of the vast experience yourself and Martin have. I found the course to have a great balance and to be fun (most of the time!). Hope to see you again sometime soon and the best of luck in September when you are back up there."
