Film Location Safety, Rigging & Camera Operation in Snowdonia

A bespoke film safety and camera service from insured, experienced, qualified professional instructors who are based in Snowdonia.

Snowdonia is a great location for filming and its mountains offer film makers many rewards and challenges. It has been host to such films as Clash of the Titans (2009), From Russia with Love, Tomb Raider 2, the 2014 Tarzan film and many more.

"Rob is the definition of the calm professional in an environment that is anything but. He is a walking encyclopaedia of the mountains, and the techniques used to master them for the furthering of your own life story. And he inspires trust by being the safe pair of hands from which you can learn how to make yours steady in the most beautiful and dramatic places in the world – not least North Wales! Trail and its tens of thousands of readers trust him: you should too." Simon Ingram, Editor, Trail Magazine

Our Experience
I am a full time professional Mountaineering Instructor based in Snowdonia. I hold the highest instructional qualification in the UK for all aspects of summer and winter climbing and mountaineering. I am also a member of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue team covering Snowdon.

Rigging & Safety Cover: I have worked behind the scenes on a number of films, dramas, documentaries and advertising shoots providing safety rigging, location advice and actor doubles for scenes that involve climbing, mountaineering or rescues in a mountain/crag environment. I recognise the need for modern media teams to be multi skilled with budget constraints.

Rob, thank you for your professionalism and absolute grace with repeat takes of climbing, clambering and hiking for the film we shot with you. Without a doubt the final product would in no way have been as good without your guidance, location sourcing and expertise. Thanks for keeping us safe. As a film production company we’d have no hesitation in recommending you for any similar ventures. All the best, Gary Wales, Producer, DirectionGroup

Aerial Filming Service
I am a qualified drone pilot and CAA Approved for aerial filming and photography. I can provide aerial filming in the mountains, either in the UK or overseas, and for pretty much any project that would benefit from an aerial perspective. See our separate website www.filmuphigh.com

I have also worked in front of camera on the likes of Countryfile, The One Show, Caroline Quentins series on National Parks, Timberland (advertising shoot) and for local and national news features on Mountain Rescue, Search & Rescue Dogs, climbing and mountaineering in Snowdonia. For an example of my presenting please visit the BMC TV channel where I presented a series of 5 small videos on mountaineering:

Camera Work: I have experience of using GoPro style cameras and DSLR cameras for remote camera work and have regular employment with production companies for the unique FPV from a climbers perspective. I also have a catalogue of mountain footage and timelapse material of the mountains in Snowdonia and Scotland.

My Team: I have a broad base of freelance staff available to assist me who are all qualified and insured.

Our Service
Our involvement normally starts with an initial chat or email and I am able to offer advice and expertise on suitable locations for the type of filming that you require. Working with your director or locations manager I can provide you with a choice of venues and assist in providing contacts for land ownership so that you can secure the necessary permissions.

In the lead up to the filming taking place I can provide advice on clothing and equipment to makeup and wardrobe departments.

Prior to filming taking place I can attend meetings on set to agree a schedule and to liase with your existing stunt co-ordinator if necessary. I can provide copies of our safety policy and risk assessments and copies of my qualifications and insurance.

On the days that filming take place I can provide safety cover for the actors and crew involved in the scene, body doubles for actors if required, camera work if required and extras for crowd scenes if required. I can also work in front of camera.
