"Hi Rob
We had such a brilliant time, Thanks Rob it's the best thing I've done - ever! I don't think we'll ever forget it. I hope that you enjoyed the mad Evans family as much as we enjoyed being in that magnificent place. The train went like clockwork and we got back to Arolla around 2ish. All the tolls etc were as your course notes. A fantastic end to a fantastic holiday.

Hello Rob
Hope your well first off thanks for an excellent week trekking we both really enjoyed the experience and it has given us lots of ideas for future holidays. Everything from your guiding to the places we stayed and visited were superb. The night in the hut was something to remember and hopefully repeat. We found a nice restaurant in Zermatt just behind the hotel called Chez Gaby give it a try next time your there. We are looking at taking a break in Snowdonia next April and I can take two days to fit in the Navigation course. This holiday has got me thinking about doing the Mountain Leader course and looking at what my ambitions are, so once again Rob thanks for a great trip and look forward to seeing you soon. Many Thanks S & A - Aug 2007

Course Description

This is an Alpine trek of outstanding quality in scenery that is some of the best and most stunning in the whole of the Alps. The Trek takes in small Alpine villages, valley pastures, high mountain passes, remote mountain huts, exposed high trails and heads past countless 4000m peaks to its journeys end at one of the most instantly recognisable mountains in the world – the Matterhorn. To top it all, this trek can be done in just 1 week’s holiday. The course will be led by Rob who is qualified as an International Mountain Leader and will be able to pass on his knowledge of the many Alpine Flowers, the Fauna and the history of the communities you walk through.

The trek starts under the looming mass of the Pigne D’Arolla and passes Mont Collon, the Dent Blanches, Grand Cornier, Ober Gabelhorn and Weisshorn and stiletto pointed Zinalrothorn; then there’s the Dom and Taschorn, Breithorn and of course Matterhorn with all of their dramatic neighbours in their impressive cloak of ice and snow.
This route manages to stay under the 3000m mark for its duration, requires no technical mountaineering skills and avoids glacier crossings. That said it is still a strenuous trip and you should be reasonably fit to complete it enjoyably. Most days lead to small Alpine villages although on one of the nights you will stay in a more remote Alpine hut. At each stop meals are provided so it is not necessary to carry food and cooking equipment. These stop-overs are very much part of the experience. In the villages you will have time to sample some of the local culture, whilst in the refuges you will enter a world that is normally the preserve of the climber and mountaineer and witness high mountain scenery that you will never forget.

Download the course notes for further details including a programme of each days distance travelled and the accommodation we will use. The price shown below is for guiding only, further costs are detailed in the course notes.

We can offer a discount for group and family bookings - call or email for details. This walk is suitable for the whole family and makes an ideal family trip away for children over 12 years old.

Dates - The next trek will run from 18th to 22nd August 2008

Accommodation

We use a variety of accommodation during the trek. Rob will pre-book all of the accommodation for the whole group and you will be responsible for paying your own bill on the morning of departure for the previous nights accommodation. The course notes that we send once you have booked will provide details of the hotels we will stay in and the arrangements for payment. Most accept major debit/credit cards but the night that we spend in the mountain refuge has to be paid for in cash.

The accommodation is a big part of the trek - the beauty of the route is that we get to soak up the local culture in each overnight stop and we stay in some lovely small Swiss hotels and of course the mountain refuge. All accommodation is generally on a twin room basis but the night in the refuge is more communal! If you would like an accommodation schedule prior to booking then just ask.
