For this weekend I am running our Mountain Skills course, here in Snowdonia. For the second day of our advanced scrambling course, Freddie, Toby and I headed into Cwm Idwal. Up the slabs and onto Cneifion Arete

For the final day of our advanced scrambling learn to lead course, Tim and Darren enjoyed a blast up the side of the Idwal Slabs via North West Face Route and Idwal Staircase and then up onto the Cneifion Arete. The latter route was a popular choice and so we had a sociable ascent in [...]

East Ridge of Y Garn

It has been another belter today here in Snowdonia and for our Alpine route of choice we headed up the East Ridge of Y Garn. The boys lead the rope themselves with me alongside for advice and this brilliant ridge provided them with plenty of opportunity to practise moving between pitches, short pitches, direct and [...]

Climbing and swimming in the sunshine

I have been joined by Darren and Tim for the next three days for our advanced scrambling learn to lead course. We climbed Ordinary Route on the Idwal Slabs today, looking at gear placements and belay building with me handing over to the boys for the scramble and abseil off. We then enjoyed a swim [...]

Big Wall Climbing in Brazil

I got back last night from Brazil after what felt like a pretty epic trip. We had a lot to contend with in terms of fuel strikes, blockades, riots, locusts and of course the climbing! We put a new route up on a beautiful mountain with the croc pith being 8a and the whole thing [...]

ML Training – Security on steep ground

Scottish Spring Snow

The winter seems to have flown by, perhaps thats what happens once you reach the age of 40! I am being woken up by the light coming in my window and the sound of the birds tweeting in the trees. The temperature has risen too and the last few days have started to feel very [...]
