East Ridge of Y Garn

It has been another belter today here in Snowdonia and for our Alpine route of choice we headed up the East Ridge of Y Garn. The boys lead the rope themselves with me alongside for advice and this brilliant ridge provided them with plenty of opportunity to practise moving between pitches, short pitches, direct and [...]

Big Wall Climbing in Brazil

I got back last night from Brazil after what felt like a pretty epic trip. We had a lot to contend with in terms of fuel strikes, blockades, riots, locusts and of course the climbing! We put a new route up on a beautiful mountain with the croc pith being 8a and the whole thing [...]

Arctic Ski Touring

I am in Norway this week, not far from the city of Tromso to enjoy some ski touring with friends Bryn and Dave. I visited the area last year whilst making a ski film in the area and this year have come back purely to enjoy the skiing! Its a truly beautiful area with summits [...]

Mountain Skills Day Two

For the second day of our Mountain Skills course we headed up the East Ridge of Y Garn, putting into practise all of the skills that we had put into place yesterday. We got lucky with the weather as we had some lovely sunshine all day except for the summit where we lost the visibility [...]

Aonach Eagach

Wow. We have had another amazing day in Scotland for the second day of our winter mountaineering course. Rachel, Gareth and I plumped for the traverse of the Aonach Eagach in Glencoe. I’ll let the photos do the talking!

Can Dearg Meadhonach – East Ridge

It has been a stunning day in Scotland today. Huw and I have been joined by Rachel, Gareth, Tom and Laura for our winter mountaineering course. We kicked off with this amazing route giving stunning views of The Ben and having a genuinely alpine feel to the whole day. Just amazing.

Scottish Spring Snow

The winter seems to have flown by, perhaps thats what happens once you reach the age of 40! I am being woken up by the light coming in my window and the sound of the birds tweeting in the trees. The temperature has risen too and the last few days have started to feel very [...]

Snowdonia Ice climbing – Sergeants Gully & Aber Falls

It has been proper cold here in Snowdonia this week, as indeed it has for most of the UK I think! The strong winds meant that the snow was stripped out midweek but the cold temperatures have meant we have had some low level ice form so it seemed rude not to make the most [...]

Snowdonia Ski and Sledge Day!
