Hi Rob,
Just thought i'd say thank you for a brilliant two days scrambling. I learnt much more than I expected and am now in the process of finding some money to buy a climbing rack so I can get out myself! All the best with the upcoming move, hopefully see you soon

Cheers Chris - Advanced scrambling April 08

Hi Rob
Back at work today (uhh!). Just wanted to say thank you for the last two days advanced scrambling in Snowdonia. Clogwyn-y-person Arete will stay with me forever and I have a permanent grin on my face reliving the memories of the two days and what I achieved thanks to your guidance and expertise. It has made me determined to carry on and gain more experience in readiness for scrambling on Skye next year and one day I'll get to do the Cullins traverse. As always it was great to see you. Hope the move goes well next year. Regards, Mandy Advanced Scrambling Nov 07

Dear Rob,
I just wanted to say thanks for a great four days in Wales. As usual the standard of instruction, choice of venues and routes were superb.
I am constantly impressed by your professionalism and apparent ability to deal with anything nature throws at you. This is borne out by the fact that despite being lashed by wind and rain on the top of Glydr Fawr and descending something akin to a waterfall, all three of us left the hill with a smile on our faces! Well done! Thanks again - Mark -  Sept 07

Just writing to say thanks for a couple of amazing days in the mountains, the course far exceeded my expectations and took me way out of my normal comfort zone and what I though I was capable of. I enjoyed your instruction and interesting facts about the mountains and despite a couple "wobbly" moments always felt I was in safe hands.Traversing onto and then climbing up the face of the Dolmen buttress are moments that will stay with me for a quite a while ! brilliant ! How my legs kept going on Friday I'm not sure, will power and adrenaline I think, I'm VERY sore today and wishing I lived in a bungalow !

Thanks again Cheers Paul – Grade 2 and 3 scrambles -  2 day course October 2005

Advanced Scrambling Course in Snowdonia - Course Content

Location: Snowdonia
Price: £175 per person
Ratio: 1:2
Length: 2 days
Previous Experience Required: Grade 1 scrambling

Who is the course suitable for?
The grade 1 scrambles have now got you hooked, a day with your hands in your pockets just does not do it any more. You fancy tackling some of the bigger classics such as Aonach Eagach, Tower Ridge, The Cuillin and perhaps ultimately the Alps. What you really need is an introduction to the rope techniques and route finding skills to keep you safe.

What does the course cover?
An introduction to the world of mountaineering looking at the skills that are required to tackle some of the finest mountain routes in the UK, including:

The Cneifion Arete - A magnificent Grade 3 scramble which is often compared to an Alpine Ridge. The route starts with a couple of pitches of Difficult grade climbing and then eases off to provide fantastic scrambling up a knife edge ridge.

Dolmen ridge (Glyder Fach)
A grade 3, three star scramble, finishing a few metres from the summit of Gyder Fach.

Clogwyn y Person Arete
A grade 2, three star scramble. A beautiful alpine style ridge with a couple of pitches of rock climbing followed by exhilarating scrambling. The descent is normally by way of Crib Goch back down to the Llanberis Pass.

Plus many, many more great routes to get you away from the crowds and onto jaw dropping terrain that would normally be the preserve of the rock climber.

The course is run by Rob at a 1:2 ratio to ensure that you get the highest level of care and instruction.

The course focuses on teaching you how to protect you and your partner on steep ground using the rope and the content includes running belays, moving together, direct belay techniques, abseiling & short roping. We can also look at the ropework involved in protecting nervous partners on easier ground.

At the end of the course you should be aware of the skills that you require to tackle your own objectives under your own steam. Rob will provide advice on how to progress those skills. It is not realistic to expect that you will have a full grasp of them after a 2 day course. You will come to realise that rock climbing skills are required to lead roped scrambles and many people come back to do our 5 day climbing course.

The course is great preparation if you are planning your first trip to Skye or your first summer Alpine trip.
