To venture out onto the mountain routes or onto the sea cliffs greatly enhances the adventurous side of climbing, as well as giving you thousands more routes to choose from. This course is aimed towards climbers that want to progress towards being a competent second or leader of their own multi-pitch or sea cliff routes. You should already be a climber able to put on a harness, tie into the end of the rope and have experience of belaying from above and below to get the most from the course. Snowdonia offers every type of climbing from roadside crags to long mountain routes and has its sheltered venues suitable for rock climbing through the winter months (the North Wales coastline being particularly good). Rob runs these multi pitch rock climbing courses on a 1:2 ratio to ensure that the pace of the day is set at your ability. The course is based on progressive teaching and we will generally start off multi-pitch climbing on day one and cover the following topics as time/weather/ability allows: ~ Personal equipment and organising it on your harness ~ Gear Placement ~ Belaying a lead climber and a second ~ The process of leading ~ Stance Organisation (rope and second management) ~ Abseil Retreats ~ Emergency Procedures ~ Judgement, route choice and route finding The course will be run entirely on the rock face although if the weather really is bad we may head indoors for a skill based session. A two day course will cover the basics whilst a five day course should allow you to progress to leading climbs under your own steam under our supervision. Learn more about rock climbing in Snowdonia by following this link. All courses are run by Rob Johnson with the aim of training you to fulfill your multi-pitch ambitions. To understand this teaching progress and the skills that are involved follow this link. Accommodation Because I am not running an outdoor centre I am not in the business of trying to sell bed-spaces! This means that I can keep the course costs low and you can then choose an accommodation type to suit your budget from camping to hotels. Follow this link for a full list. Course members often then meet up in the pub of an evening to share experiences from the day. Dates See diary page for open course dates. If you have at least two people then you can book a date to suit you on a private course. Bookings You can book securely online below by clicking on the buy now button. If you are booking more than 8 weeks in advance of the course you can secure your booking by paying the deposit and then the balance 8 weeks prior to the course commencement.

What have previous clients said? Dear Rob, I just wanted to say thanks for a great four days in Wales. As usual the standard of instruction, choice of venues and routes were superb. I am constantly impressed by your professionalism and apparent ability to deal with anything nature throws at you. This is borne out by the fact that despite being lashed by wind and rain on the top of Glydr Fawr and descending something akin to a waterfall, all three of us left the hill with a smile on our faces! Well done! Thanks again - Mark - Sept 07 "Thanks for an excellent 2 days - your patience and professionalism were very much appreciated and I was genuinely amazed by how much more knowledge I came away with" Roy - May 05 "Thanks for a great week, I have been to Stanage this weekend and led 6 routes for myself, and we had a great week in Glen Coe" Paul - July 05 |
