The Costa Blanca is famous for its winter sun, and almost as famous for its fantastic rock climbing on immaculate weathered limestone. Forget polished limestone the likes of which we find in the UK and think limestone so grippy it wears your fingers away over a weekend!

This course takes advantage of the Spanish winter climate, summers here are too hot, and of the cheap flights available at this time of year.

The accommodation is in a traditional Spanish town house in the lovely village of Villanueva del Rosario and it is 35km north of Malaga surrounded by hills and mountains.

Staffing
This course will be run by Silvia Fitzpatrick. Silvia holds the Mountain Instructor Award and lives in Spain during the winter months. Silvia is fluent in Spanish and English and will be able to devise a programme to suit your needs based on local knowledge of the best crags in the Costa Blanca.

Silvias experience includes several successful summits in Patagonia including the first female ascent of Fitz Roy, Alpine highlights such as Bonatti Pillar, the Walker Spur and the North Face of the Eiger. Silvia also made an early repeat of the Fish in the Dolomites

In the UK her trad achievements include many classic E5s such as Right Wall, Positron and Alien in North Wales; Black Magic and Darkinbad in North Devon; A Grey English Morning and Headhunter in Pembroke. Last year she pulled off her hardest lead on natural gear by doing Mammoth Direct on the Main Cliff of Gogarth.

Silvia was the British Indoor Climbing Champion in 1994 and a member of the British Competition Climbing Team from 1993 to 1995. She also won the International Australian Competition in the Blue Mountains in 1997.

In sport climbing, she has climbed over twenty routes graded 8a and above in locations throughout Europe, UK, Asia and Australia. She has recently red pointed her hardest sport route: El Oraculo (8b) in El Chorro, Spain.
