For the third day of our winter skills course we headed to Glencoe today. We knew that the snow would be minimal but were keen to get a journey somewhere new and so headed up the Lost Valley onto Bidean where we found enough old snow to look at the emergency use of the rope and practise some more crampon skills. I then put the boys in charge as we headed up Stob Coire nan Lochain – choosing when to put crampons on and when to take them off. We were glad of them in descent as a light covering of snow combined with verglas and rime made it pretty slippy underfoot. A great day out with lovely weather this morning turning a bit more overcast this afternoon.
