Aspirations are fluctuating with each read of the weather forecast but this morning at least Rob, Dave and me have managed to find some nice ice climbing. Rob and myself are hanging around in Norway for a few more days climbing and Dave has some more instructing work to do. We’ve shifted base to Hemsedal and this morning found that a night’s refreeze had made possible climbing on the icefalls at Haugsfossen . Rope gun Dave lead us up the steepest line to be found on Haugsfoss itself which although fun for me and Rob didn’t necessarily provide the securest of ice and screw placements for Dave to lead on. With the latter thought in mind we dropped a line down the next door climb of Indre Haugsfoss which despite a little dripping gave I think the best pitch of climbing that I’d done all trip. The clouds started to clear at around lunch time and with sunshine now falling on the crag we beat a dignified retreat to a Hemsedal cafe for early afternoon coffee and cake.
