I have been part of a film safety workshop this weekend at Plas Y Brenin, playing with all things rigging. As a member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors I need to stay current by undertaking Continuing Professional Development each year and November is a great time to rack up some points. As well as being a requirement of membership its also a great excuse to get out with colleagues and share ideas, catch up with old friends and make sure I am unto date with all the latest toys, gadgets and thinking.

Last weekend I attended a day of avalanche refresher training with several keynote speakers including Alain Duclos, probably Europes foremost avalanche expert. This weekend I have been on a Rescue 3 film safety course where we spent two days looking at working at height in the film industry. Over the course of the weekend we looked at double rope techniques, rescues in ascent and descent and played with the industrial rope access kit that is standard in the industry. Lots of great learning and fun – thanks to all involved.
