Who Is This Course For?

This course is designed for experienced scramblers with prior Grade 3 terrain experience. It’s ideal for:

  • Adventurers seeking iconic UK mountaineering routes

  • Those preparing for a full Cuillin Ridge Traverse

  • Scramblers training for their first summer Alpine trip

“I recall none of these things… so vividly to mind as that perfect night up in lonely Corrie Lagan.” — Ashley Abraham, 1908

For me, the Cuillin is where it all began — my first rock climb on the Inaccessible Pinnacle as a teenager. I’ve returned every year since, and I’m passionate about sharing the magic of Skye with others.

  •  Pinnacle Ridge

  • Clach Glas – Blaven Traverse

  •  The Cioch & Sgurr Alasdair

Each day is tailored to the group’s goals and the weather & conditions, with a focus on covering as much quality terrain as possible.

Geology & History of the Cuillin

Formed 70 million years ago by volcanic eruptions, the Cuillin is composed of:

  • Gabbro: Rough, grippy rock ideal for scrambling

  • Basalt: Fragile and slippery when wet — easy to spot by its column-like formations

This unique geology creates dramatic ridges that plunge straight into the sea, offering world-class scrambling in a truly wild setting.

Scrambling on Skye Reviews

After the recent sunny dry spell, it was hard to motivate myself on the drive up with the poor forecast for the week ahead. But I needn’t have worried as right from day one we were out scrambling and getting acclimatised to the terrain. Each day our guide David found us a new challenge and treated us to the best that the Cuillin ridge has to offer. His pacing was spot on as was his ability to inspire confidence and help us through the trickier sections. Rob’s courses have a real family feel to them and this was no different with meet ups with other course participants in the cafe or the pub or even half way round the day’s route! It still amazes me how much we got done and I’m already studying the bits of the ridge we didn’t do and planning a return visit. Thanks guys for a week that will stay in my memory for a very long time. By Mark D on Jun 02, 2025

We’ve been on this trip multiple times and it never disappoints. The surrondings are beautiful, the opportunities that the location gives are unforgettable and this course allows you to access areas that would otherwise be out of our reach. We learnt loads and gained valuable experience scrambling in serious terrain. Every day was fun regardless of the weather though we got lucky with 2 fantastically sunny days. Already booked on for next year! By Thomas M for Scrambling on the Cuillin Ridge, Isle of Skye on Jun 04, 2024

This was my third time on the ‘Scrambling on the Cuillin Ridge’ trip, the previous time being 5 years ago. It was just as good, and as before, exceeded my expectations. Our guide David was fantastic, making the best of the sometimes less than perfect weather conditions. He listened carefully to what we hoped to get from the week, and then chose routes with just the right degree of challenge, ensuring a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

If you enjoy scrambling, this is probably the best location in the UK, but access and local knowledge are essential to remain safe and make the most of what’s available. Expeditionguide have got this trip absolutely nailed. Their planning and guiding of the routes is faultless, tuned to the clients’ capabilities and flexible to deal with weather and any requests you might have. What I love about this company is the atmosphere they create amongst the group and between the instructors and clients. It really is like climbing with friends; this is why so many people return year after year. If you can get on this course, or any other, you won’t regret it. I had a great time on the Skye Scrambling week. The Cuillins are an absolute must for anyone who likes scrambling and there cannot be a better team to go with. It’s like having fun with a bunch of old friends. Which is why I have been twice! Highly recommended By Raymond T for Scrambling on the Cuillin Ridge, Isle of Skye on May 26, 2024
