Welcome to your course notes for our week of trekking in Norway.
The Sunmore Alps
Trekking in the dramatic Sunnmøre Alps offers an unforgettable adventure into Norway’s raw wilderness, where jagged alpine peaks rise directly from the glassy waters of iconic fjords like the Geirangerfjord and Hjørundfjord. Revered as a paradise for mountain enthusiasts, this region features sweeping ridge walks, crystal-clear glacial waters, and breathtaking coastal vistas around every turn. The area holds a legendary status in mountaineering history, largely established by William Cecil Slingsby—the “Father of Norwegian Mountaineering”—who pioneered countless routes and first ascents here in the late 19th century while exploring these unique fjord-to-summit landscapes. Following in Slingsby’s footsteps, modern trekkers can tackle historic paths like the Slingsby Route near Mount Kvitegga or ascend iconic peaks like Slogen, experiencing the same untamed beauty, deep fjord valleys, and thrilling summits that inspired the world’s earliest alpine explorers.
GETTING THERE
You can fly to Alesund Airport from the UK (London) and I will pick you up from there. When you book I will coordinate flight timings so that everyone arrives together. At the end of the week I will drop you back at the airport.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE COURSE COST?
The course fee includes leadership and logistical organisation.
You will need to pay for your own flights.
We will book the accommodation prior to the trip and share the costs between the course members. You can choose between self catering or eating out.
We are not set up as Tour Operators and so we don’t offer this trip as a Package Holiday. (If you prefer to arrange your own accommodation then that is fine).
Insurance:
We do not include insurance within our course fees. For all overseas trips you will require travel insurance and we will require a copy of the policy. The cover needs to include:
- Cancellation/curtailment
- Emergency medical expenses
- Search & Rescue Expenses (helicopters are expensive in Norway)
- Personal accident
For this trek the BMC “Trek” policy is ideal but you are equally welcome to source your own cover.
