Dolmen Ridge, Glyder Fach, Snowdonia
Dolmen Ridge, Glyder Fach Main Cliff
Grade: 3
Area: Ogwen Valley
Aspect: North West
Summary: Dolmen Ridge is a beautiful line that runs the full height of the Main Cliff on Glyder Fach. The crux of the route is Dolmen Buttress that sits fairly low down in the cliff. The is one of my favourite scrambles in Snowdonia and one that I am happy to do in most weathers. It finishes on the summit of the Glyderau and you then have a choice of descent options. Bristly Ridge and the Gribin both offer nice grade 1 descents or you can fly from the summit on a lightweight paraglider!
Guidebook Description of Dolmen Ridge:
The following is an extract from North Wales Scrambles, published by Cambrian Printers and written by Garry Smith.
Dolmen Ridge: “An outstanding route that meanders through impressive mountain terrain without ever being unduly difficult. The exact line of this scramble is complex but never too tricky to follow, with helpful navigational features littered along the way. Even when tackled in mist and drizzle it is a brilliant Tolkien-esque journey. Arguably the best grade 3 outing in the Ogwen Valley.”
